Brewery introduction
Asahi Distillery

Founded in 1916 (Taisho 5), Asahi Shuzo takes its name from both the company and its flagship brand, "Asahi" (Morning Sun). Kikai Island is the easternmost island in the Amami archipelago and is among the first places to witness the sunrise over the ocean. The name reflects the founders' wish for the company's continued growth and prosperity, inspired by the rising sun. For more than a century, the brewery has been nurtured by the local community as a beloved island distillery on Kikai Island. Today, Asahi Shuzo remains dedicated to preserving and promoting Kokuto Shochu, a unique spirit that can only be produced in the Amami Islands. Committed to Kikai Island and its traditions, the brewery continues to pursue integrated craftsmanship using organically cultivated sugarcane, from raw ingredients to finished product. Through its spirits, Asahi Shuzo strives to share the culture, heritage, and charm of Kikai Island with the world.
