Brewery introduction
Nakanura Shuzoujo Co., Ltd.
Founded in 1888, our brewery is located in Kokubu, Kirishima City, Kagoshima - a serene countryside surrounded by mountains, rivers, and the sea. Unlike most sweet potato shochu distilleries, we place special emphasis on koji making, as our goal is not to create a light, fruity aroma, but to express deep umami and gentle sweetness. Our lineup centers around three signature brands: “Gyokuro,” beloved by locals; “Kame-Sennin,” offering a slightly richer taste; and “Nakamura,” our most carefully crafted expression. All our shochu are made exclusively from the Kogane Sengan sweet potato variety. Each brand’s distinct character comes primarily from the type of koji used - simple yet profound, shochu for those who truly appreciate craftsmanship. We remain dedicated to continuing this tradition of authentic, heartfelt shochu making.
